It's an open poll. You may give reasons at this point for wanting to use either package with pros/cons for each, which are both currently under development. This thread is not a showcase for either product - friendly discussion. ____________ |

I don't like the Bennu/Div/Gemix language so I won't use neither. If I would've been stuck in the past I'd say Gemix, because it would resemble DIV the most. Not only by language, but it's more of a total package as well. As they said it would contain content editing tools as well, just like DIV. But I think it's waaaaaayyyyy to early for this kind of topic. Gemix is still in it's pre beta stage and Bennu as well. ____________ blog.htbaa.com |

I'll be using Bennu because it's free and any inferiorities on Bennu's side I can enhance myself with modules.

Ya, you can't really compare them... If I bought Gemix it'd be for the development environment rather than the language. But we really have to wait and see how this Gemix turns out!

Forgive me, but I have not yet tried Bennu. But based on what I've read here in the Gemix threads, here's my consideration: DIV is not at all a language for experienced programmers. It's verry limmited compared with any proffesional programming language of today. (collections, datatypes, overwriding/loading, inclusion, object orientated, declaring inline variables, etc, etc). Although I still think it should be possible to make a DIV compiler support multi threading for processes... DIV is the best I could find back then for it's purpose: - It's easy to learn - You are verry empowered when you know it - You're really programming (no drag/drop, no scripting) - DIV was great BECAUSE it's a studio. No need to leave your programming environment to create a new graphic or anything. Why waist my clicks on that, if I only have 256 colours? ![]() From what I heared, I think Gemix is heading to where the strength of DIV layed. Therefore I would probably choose Gemix (not taking the financial part in concideration) ____________ |

Quoting PB: - DIV was great BECAUSE it's a studio. No need to leave your programming environment to create a new graphic or anything. ² That is also a reason I quit. DIV died, and so did my game development. Not a single package could return me what div gave me, because they were all freeware things and unreliable/unstable. When I make errors due to my programming, i fix it, but when when I have to build workarrounds to avoid bugs I really don't like it anymore. It's boring and useless for me. Another reason: DIV had a debugger with tracing (program froze) and watches, and an all-in-one interface that provided me with everything I needed. ____________ Kwakkel |

Fenix 0.93 and Bennu WIP 2 have a very nice debugger (with trace, etc) and other nice things (some features will even be added!). Some Fenix versions had a few bugs, but I do agree with you, that I sometimes wonder if it's a bug on my behalf or Fenix' behalf. Bennu seems much more stable and proper, mind, so if you ever feel like programming a game again, do give it a try.

The debugger interface for DIV was something else though, the mouse-driven gui did lead a great deal. Fenix has a console-based clunky one. Something as basic as trying to get a particular process isn't as easy as it should be.

(bennu that is) And I agree with Fiona. text output is nice for procedural languages but it's not all that useful for process-based languages.
