![]() wtf wtf wtf wtf wtf wtf WTF so yeah I tried Gemix and with a few adjustments it compiled my (only remaining) div2 source code. It crashes everytime I try to play the game (something about a load file function accessing outside block memory o_O) but I'll figure it out somehow. Sorry for the randomness, I just had a mindgasm when this worked. It worked! ![]() ![]() There are still several problems I need to work out, my hardness map code has gone wonky, xput seems to have problems and I cant get my wavs to play, but just seeing my game from 2004 compile and run on XP is fantastic. Gemix is great ![]() ____________ "clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right. here i am, stuck in the middle with you." ~Stealers Wheel |

You could also have compiled with Bennu with some minor code adustments. The xput works fine, your hardness map is wonky (?) which i don't know about, but the wavs would play!

There is no reason to translate a Bennu, Gemix runs faster and has a better sound quality He also wrote in the official forum that he corrected the problems ____________ |

It dosen't have better sound quality, at least no noticable difference? You can up the frequency by changing the default values. And maybe Gemix does run faster with certain operations, for now. ____________ |

the difference between the two programs in audio is enormous, as quality and power Gemix runs faster in 99% of cases, and with the new video library with hardware acceleration that we are developing will be even more ____________ |

This is clear sandman, but you should say a square that has something bad to say about Gemix and now is trying to convince people to switch from Gemix to Bennu, and this is not correct

CicTec, I think you are taking this Bennu/Gemix thing too personally... I don't see a problem with people trying to convince others to use other software (even though squares, the same that I see perfectly understandable that you want to promote yours... Don't missunderstand me, I don't have anything against Gemix (and probably you know that I check also Gemix forum from time to time, as I would like to see how far you take this "Div-like" programming idea), but you shouldn't worry too much about these things. If the product is good, people will use it, as simple as that, but you cannot avoid people making comparisons about two things that, right now, allow to do similar things (which I know that may not be the case when you have the whole Gemix Studio ready). Well, good luck at any case. Danko ____________ |

Danko, I think you've misunderstood, I do not have any personal problem Gemix / Bennu, and I see perfectly logical that people want to compare the programs. The "problem" is other, if you read carefully all posts on the main thread you'll see why certain attitudes can no longer tolerate ____________ |

games are terrible -9616558 posts ![]() |
Why can't everyone get along? Gemix and Bennu are clearly not after the same market. Gemix is supposed to be easy to use and be fully backwards compatible with DIV - Bennu is for making games but it requires quite a bit of effort to set up an environment and deal with bugs, it also doesn't care about compatibility. All they share is a similar syntax. Just drop it. ____________ laffo |

Quoting fenics: I'd try this with my games , but unfortunately nearly all of them used the lightfx.dll : < Gemix supports a new and powerful integrated blending system, most likely above the DLL, even if I do not know what functions it contains. If I indicate where to download the source code can pass it so you can try it in Gemix ____________ |

Quoting Square: You could also have compiled with Bennu with some minor code adustments. Actually, if Bennu is anything like Fenix, then it wouldn't be minor adjustments. I tried porting this game to Fenix ages ago and just ran into endless problems. Thats why I was so happy with Gemix, it was literally: search & replace sound commands + compile. I didn't mean to start an A vs B thread, I simply don't have the time nor interest to recode my old game. ![]() ____________ "clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right. here i am, stuck in the middle with you." ~Stealers Wheel |
