There's a Ludum Dare 48 competition coming up - a game programming competition that takes place in just 48 hours and is mostly for fun. It has been very popular for the recent years, even though the only prize you can win is some funny pelican icon which is about as valuable as the Walrus Stamp of Approval. However, it is quite an honor if you can win this competition! You have to work all alone, and your game has to be done from scratch. In the end all entries will be judged by the other entrants.

The competition is theme-based, you have to stick to a certain theme that will be democratically choosen, the theme voting starts a week before the competition starts. I believe you can also suggest your own themes. This competition will run from Saturday 29th of April, 4:00 AM GMT to Monday 1st of May, 4:00 AM GMT. Don't forget to sign up if you want to enter! I believe there yet has to be setup a signup page, anyway you can already view the rules here.

In the past Ariel Yust, Woody, Moogle and Retep/Futgiz have entered with games made in Fenix, some didn't get their game ready in time and the others didn't win anything. So can you finish a winning game in just 48 hours? Get ready!

If any of you wins you'll be our local hero. :P

You can see here what Ariel and what Woody have done in 48 hours, I don't know if any other entries of BS inhabitants are still online somewhere.

Are you trying to say that Retep and Futgiz are the same person?

Hmmmm. I think I might enter with a TBS. I mean it gives me a chance to practice the logic/physics/math side of things, plus it's a genre I haven't attempted before (except Nuns with guns, back in my darker days... *shudders*)... I mean, I should be able to fit a theme around anything.

A week out, we'll get everyone participating to select their favourite themes from ThemeSuggestions. Everyone gets 10 votes which they use to select 10 themes. Votes are tallied. Ties are decided by random choice.

So what, you have to signup in advance? I don't know about that, I mean, if I had to say "yes I'll be entering" or "no I won't", I don't know if I can. I mean, I've got some stuff coming up and it's pretty much a on the night decision thing, depending on how I'm feeling n stuff. How did you enter the last one?

Don't decide on a genre before you hear the theme, it'll fuck you up.

Trying to work a game idea around a set theme is infinately harder than trying to work a set theme around a game idea.
