They had to give it a flashy name; Floating Point Processing Unit doesn't catch the mainstream and people won't know what they need it for. I sure hope a card like this will be used for all floating points (or maybe some hybrid shit and an on/off button), taking strain off the CPU and being compatible with programs which are not specialized for this kind of card (old games par example).

I'm still not buying it Ferret. So what did you have when the PS2 launched(Q4 2000 for $300) or when the GameCube launched(Q4 2001 for $200) and what did you upgrade, to still be playing all those new game at 'stupidly high settings'?

When the console has a video output worthy of the resolution of the monitor, then it could be worth doing, else there is no point, although it is still possible. And why would one do such a thing anyway? A TV looks better because of its low resolution and scanlines and one usually sits about 2m+ away and the eye/mind interpolates. When one sits in front of a monitor, it is usually about 0.5m away, so sharper pixels can be seen.

Quote: is it possible to connect a console to a monitor instead of a TV. I remember Sillydiot doing this. You can do this. My housemate has an adapter that let's him stick consoles into his laptop. He uses it to play Gran Tourismo 4. Quote: why would one do such a thing anyway? 'One' would do it because the TV Licesnse is an unfair tax that bites out of a student's budget. ____________ This is my Blog. There are many like it, but this one is mine! TV License you say. I guess in Dtuchland that only applies when you use the TV Connection, not when you buy a TV. Or am I wrong here?

Here you have to have a TV license if you want to watch any TV at all, which is used by the BBC to pay for their two main channels (I think that's all it's for). It's law that you have to pay it. Even if you don't watch those channels.

I can't remember that far back. The trick is to buy from places that are cheap. Like eBay. ____________ laffo |

by the way this did actually happen, the TV licensing came round and i explained my TV usage.. he just looked at me like i was cutting it a bit thin and then promptly fucked off. so the point is you don't actually need a license for owning a TV, rather if you watch any channels paid for by the license fee, which is pretty much all of them in some form or another. ____________ |

Quote: What if I only use a TV to watch videos/DVDs/as a monitor for my games console? Do I still need a licence? - You need to notify us in writing that this is the case and one our Enforcement Officers may need to visit you to confirm that you do not need a licence. Please write to us including your name, address and the reason you believe that you don't need a licence at: TV Licensing Bristol BS98 1TL So there you go. I think this is new though, I remember a while back something saying "possession of TV recieving equiptment" and some unhappy TV licensing peoples. ____________ :o |

Of course it does, it can pickup aeriel signals better than just your TV plug, because of the cable.

I believe that was the GameGear, Sega's first handheld. The GameGear is the handheld version of the Master System, but slightly better even, because it has a larger colour palette. When you put in the TV Tuner cartridge, one was able to watch TV on it, which should be rather nice thanks to the backlit colourscreen. Man, SEGA was so ahead. ____________ BennuWiki Yes, my avatar has grey borders in IE (so get a decent browser) ROOFLEZ ROOFLEZ |
