a while back (like 2 years ago) someone made a fenix compiler that could be used to create dreamcast games. i've been tinkering with it and have had some success, although there are limitations. has anyone else tried it out? and if so, run into problems with it? i've found it's really only usable with screen resolution of 320x240. anything larger and the dreamcast runs itself into the ground (although the compiler still creates a fine executable for the PC).

Actually, if you run games at 640x480 res at 60fps that don't scroll, you get pretty good speed with little stuttering. Any mode7 stuff or scrolling must be run at 320x240. The DC game I'm currently working on runs at this res due to some mode7 window dressing that I'm including in it. I have an entire technical page dedicated to running Fenix games on the Dreamcast. You can visit it at http://atari.vg-network.com. It covers many features, technical specifications, and limitations of running Fenix games on the DC. Some tricks are also covered to help you gain some speed advantages, and some of it's bugs are also covered. I've been working hard to get others interested in writing Fenix games for the DC, and I've had some success, but it's probably to remain a niche thing. No matter... the games I like to write and play are perfect fodder for DC Fenix, and I love the console. So it suits me just fine.
