Almost mechanical play from Germany. First they tried to attack from the left, then the right and then through the center. Pin point passes and no risks. Then they win by one goal as that's all it needs -- are they human? Even after conceding USA didn't change their play and they didn't need to, as all they needed to make sure they wouldn't loose by too many goals. I mean... yeah, really boring setting. I recorded the game between Ghana and Portugal but the commentator just had to tell the result four times and warned only once before telling it. So, I deleted the recording and watched the summary instead. It looked like Ghana was having the same problem they've had in their previous matches: no gameplan after getting near the box and then rubbish accuracy. Portugal wasn't any better, completely unspirited. Portugal's 1-0 goal was an own goal and a completely accidental one, and then the winning goal: what was Ghana's goalkeeper thinking? What was Ghana's defense thinking? A sad, sad result. Unfortunately we didn't see the confident flying Algeria that played previously against Korea but something more similar to the one that played against Belgium. And to be frank, this Algeria is terrible. It was like they had three guys attacking and the rest stayed back. There was no one to pass to. In my opinion, if they really don't have the confidence to play their own game against "bigger countries", they shouldn't be in the top 16. But they are, so let's hope we see that happy Algeria again come next monday. Fine, all Algeria needed was a draw and that's what they got, but it was mighty close. Saturday 28.6 Brazil 3 - 2 Chile Colombia 2 - 0 Uruguay Sunday 29.6 Dtuchland 2 - 1 Where tacos come from Costa Rica 2 - 0 Greece Knockout stage! Or eight-finals? Ok. Games might get a bit more "serious" now, so nerves of steel and general cool-headedness might come useful. Stuff that dem south americans are well known for. Riight. Brazil - Chile could go either way, though Brazil is probably the favourite. Both are capable of scoring and playmaking. I'm less optimal about Uruguay's chances, although I think they might still be slight favourites. Not just because of Suarez -Uruguay has got plenty of strikers- but because Colombia has played excellent football so far and there seems to be a very good spirit inside the team. Dtuchland had a flying start but after that the games have been less impressive, though they've won all of them so far. Mexico might just be one of the best "group seconds" but I trust Dtuchland's goalscoring skills. And because it's illegal to bet against Dtuchland. I think. It'll be a top match in any case. Costa Rica is a no brainer. Go home to avoid taxes Greece. ____________ gay |

Didn't see much of saturday's games and missed the first 60 minutes of Dtuchland's game. To be honest, Mexico seemed to have it in the bag. 88 minutes played, Mexico leading 1-0 and putting good pressure on Dtuchland, which looks like it's in panic but then bam bam and Dtuchland wins. Here's a good clip of the penalty kick. Yeah, it's a dive -a dramatic but oh so typical looking dive from Robben- but then again, there's also contact that enables it. I wonder if Robben is going to get a yellow for diving in a coming match... Then I fell asleep a few times during the late night match. I think Greece was actually playing quite well, especially after one of Costa Rica's players was sent off for two yellows. Speaking of dives, that first yellow card was one ugly dive without any contact, which does put some perspective into Robben's dramatic dive. Greece also was the team that got the most freekicks of all the teams in group stage. Not surprised. It was a bit of a surprise when even one man down and winning, Costa Rica didn't park a buss infront of their goal. They even attacked. What the...? Yeah, I'm glad to see them win. France might just be the best team out of Europe as of now, so it's slightly hard to believe in Nigeria's chances of surprise. Algeria on the other hand could be an entirely different matter but I'm a bit afraid they might just play the same "let's hope we get the result"-game against Germany which they played against Russia. Germany got a flying start but since it's been quieter ... so let's see. edit: fixed Sandman's (cheated) scores. [Edited on June 30, 2014 by (. )( .)] ____________ gay |

Time to do the scores... but it's been so long I can't remember the games. Nigeria kept along France quite well? Then all these frigging zero goal games happened oh dear God. It was the "because fuck goals" that jinxed them, right? Ah yes, Belgium had horrendous finishing. Why did they try to shoot low when Howard is known to go down on his knees? Belgians, you bunch of noobs! They actually are a young bunch. Did Argentina better its game? After these games it's hard to say who's who. Monday 30.6 results France 2 - 0 Nigeria Germany 0 - 0 Algeria (2-1 after extratime) Tuesday 1.7 results Argentina 0 - 0 Switzerland (1-0 after extratime) Belgium 0 - 0 Team America World Police One Nation One Team and other cheesy stuff (2-1 after extratime) Code: Sandman 102 2 10 10 2 6 2 0 0 = 134 Lovejoy 98 0 10 10 0 6 2 0 2 = 128 Raverdave 89 0 0 6 2 6 0 0 0 = 103 Dennis 58 6 6 2 6 = 78 Zosma 56 0 0 2 0 6 6 0 2 = 72 Square 16 = 16 Zomg 5 = 5 Rincewind 0 = 0 Friday 4.7 France 2 - 1 Germany Brazil 2 - 3 Columbia BECAUSE MORE GOALS. As this "side of the cup" is easily more exciting, there's quite the match day coming up. France or Germany? An impossible decision. It can't be another draw or can it? France plays a bit more attack happy game but when it comes to winning, good defense is often a cornerstone. Germany's goalkeeper is on fire at the moment but the defense line is perhaps a bit slow, though their mechanical play helps. An impossible decision! Brazil is considered easily the favourite againt Colombia because heritage... but just based on this tournament I'm picking Colombia. That's a team. It'll be a tight game nonetheless. ____________ gay |
